Barn Mead Garden Design, Essex

Bringing new life to an abandoned garden, creating a colourful and thriving landscape with wildflower meadow planting, pollinator beds, woodland management, wild bee hive, and permaculture orchard.  

Conscious Landscape were approached by a young family renovating a 5-acre property in Essex, who wanted to create a wilder landscape. The house and land had been abandoned for the last 2-3 years and the garden was overgrown in parts and taken over by deer.

Working with the client to understand their holistic context, Conscious Landscape started with a baseline assessment of the site - comprised of tree and species surveys, topography and water course mapping, and soil assessments – this then fed into the development of both a Design Plan and an Implementation and Maintenance Handbook. As always, our design was focused on creating a beneficial impact for nature, biodiversity and wildlife whilst aligning to the needs of the client.

The client is now working with a contractor to implement the design, with Conscious Landscape supporting the process and providing technical oversight when required.

We look forward to seeing how this land develops over the next few years, transforming from a dark and restricted garden, into a wild, colourful, and thriving landscape.
